Dr. Galvan grew up in Longview, Texas, and in 1986 he received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. He completed his dental degree at the University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio in 1990 and then one-year General Practice Residency at Ft. Riley Kansas. While in the Army, Dr. Galvan served as the Army’s Liaison to the American Dental Association’s Committee on the New Dentist and received his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1995. During his time in the military, Dr. Galvan commanded the 89th Medical Detachment in Heidelberg, Germany and was chief dental officer for the US State Department’s Joint Services Deployment “Operation Provide Hope IV” to Minsk, Belarus in 1994.
After serving as an Army general dentist for 8 years, Dr. Galvan went back to school and received his certificate in Endodontics from the Medical College of Georgia and the U.S. Army in 2000. He practiced endodontics in Louisiana for two years before coming to Austin Endodontics in 2002. Dr. Galvan continued his military duties with the Texas Army National Guard where he served as State Dental Surgeon until his retirement in 2010 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. Galvan is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Southwest Endodontic Society and the Capital Area Dental Society. He has published dental articles in the Journal of Endodontics, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Journal of Military Medicine.
Dr. Galvan works full time at our South/Westlake office. Dr. Galvan is married with one child and in his spare time he enjoys watching college football, traveling and swimming. He also announces for the varsity sports teams at Regents School.
